“He hath said.” – Hebrews 13:5

If we can only grasp these words by faith, we have an all-conquering weapon in our hand. What doubt will not be slain by this two-edged sword? What fear is there which shall not fall smitten with a deadly wound before this arrow from the bow of God’s covenant? Will not the distresses of life and the pangs of death; will not the corruptions within, and the snares without; will not the trials from above, and the temptations from beneath, all seem but light afflictions, when we can hide ourselves beneath the bulwark of “He hath said”? Yes; whether for delight in our quietude, or for strength in our conflict, “He hath said” must be our daily resort. And this may teach us the extreme value of searching the Scriptures. There may be a promise in the Word which would exactly fit your case, but you may not know of it, and therefore you miss its comfort. You are like prisoners in a dungeon, and there may be one key in the bunch which would unlock the door, and you might be free; but if you will not look for it, you may remain a prisoner still, though liberty is so near at hand. There may be a potent medicine in the great pharmacopoeia of Scripture, and you may yet continue sick unless you will examine and search the Scriptures to discover what “He hath said.” Should you not, besides reading the Bible, store your memories richly with the promises of God? You can recollect the sayings of great men; you treasure up the verses of renowned poets; ought you not to be profound in your knowledge of the words of God, so that you may be able to quote them readily when you would solve a difficulty, or overthrow a doubt? Since “He hath said” is the source of all wisdom, and the fountain of all comfort, let it dwell in you richly, as “A well of water, springing up unto everlasting life.” So shall you grow healthy, strong, and happy in the divine life.  ~Charles Haddon Spurgeon

  1. Just a note: There are some people liking the posts here at He Hath Said who are New Age “Christians.” I do not endorse their unscriptural spirituality. Please exercise discernment for yourself and your own walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. Pray for those who believe they are right with God but are not , that they may come to know the only true God and His Son, Jesus, whom He has sent, for in this is eternal life. Let us look to our own salvation to make sure we are known by Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

  4. Just wanted to visit and thank you for the like and the follow. One can’t do better than Spurgeon or the Gospel he preached. Was interested in your inclusion of works by Susannah Spurgeon. I once had Spurgeon’s autobiography in which there was a chapter on her. A later edition omitted it.

      Spurgeon lifted me up when I experienced a dark time in my walk with Christ. His exhortations and encouragements meant a lot to me so I wanted to honor both him and the devotional site where I first found him, and be of help to others who may need it as I did (and still do), thus this blog.

      Oh, how wonderful to have Spurgeon’s autobiography! Susannah was his greatest encourager. That the chapter on her was omitted is too bad. She was a humble servant not only by faithfulness to her husband but in her fundraising to help equip the poor ministers of England.

      • Thank you. We badly need a Spurgeon in these wicked times. Without doubt, Susannah was a great help to him, but he was preaching several years before he met her. The New Park Street Pulpit records these earlier sermons. You can tell he didn’t have the maturity of his later sermons, but he still preached the same God. Would that we had some twenty-somethings like him today!

      • Good morning! Go to your My Sites in the upper left hand of your blog. Scroll down to Customize, click on that and then click on Widgets and then click on the sidebar you want it in. You will get a menu to choose from for your sidebar. In it is two different Follow buttons. One is to Follow by email and the other is for the Reader. I would click on both as some prefer one over another. I hope I explained it well but if you have questions, let me know.

  8. Spurgeon always takes us outside of ourselves into the realm of God, where we find the Holy Spirit directing us in all truth! I have not read anything yet by him I have not agreed with which tells me to be of one mind with the brethren this man was spot on in following God!!!! Thank you for the link. blessings.
